The MSBA Votes To Invite Lexington Into The Capital Pipeline!

March 1st was an important day for Lexington Public Schools!  The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) voted to invite us into the capital pipeline. What does this mean for Lexington?  It means that we can look forward to a significant State investment in this project.  If, after the Feasibility Study, the MSBA and Lexington stakeholders determine that a new high school is the way to go, a project of that scope and magnitude would cost at least $400 million and quite likely more.  Lexington receives a 32% reimbursement rate, but once allowable costs are factored into the equation, Lexington has an effective reimbursement rate of approximately 25%.  In other words, Lexington will be reimbursed a quarter for every dollar spent on a new or renovated high school!  We are grateful for the MSBA's partnership!  Please click here for our acceptance letter from the MSBA.

In other news, the School Building Committee (SBC) convened on February 13th to discuss the next steps in the Massachusetts School Building Authority Eligibility Period.  The Committee began discussing a timeline for the project, the interview and selection process for Owner’s Project Managers and Designers, and how we plan to make sustainability a priority from the outset.  Members of the SBC have been collaborating to create an informative presentation about the high school construction project that will be shared at the Annual Town Meeting in March.  The next SBC meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. To view the agenda, recording, or minutes from this meeting, please click here.
