Traffic & Parking

  • Parking at the Park Drive & Clarke Street Playground remains unavailable due to fencing of the skatepark staging area.

  • Worthen Road parking in front of the construction site remains reduced; spaces have been removed.

  • Clarke Street water main installation runs from September 29 through October 9. Clarke Street will be closed to through traffic at the active work zone for the duration. Road closure signage and detours will be posted at both approaches, and the closure will move along the street as the trench advances.

    • Residents of 42 Clarke Street and 49 Parker Street should use Park Drive for access during the week of September 28. Once the trench passes the driveway entrances, access returns to the Clarke Street side.

    • Vehicle access to the DPW parking lot entrance will be closed for one full day during the week of October 5. The exact date is still being confirmed and will be communicated in advance.

  • Installation of the replacement parking lot at the skatepark continues through the month and into early November.

  • Worthen Road utility relocation begins late October and continues into December. Expect lane restrictions, alternating one-way traffic under police detail, and further parking impacts along Worthen Road.

  • Truck traffic increases site-wide in the second half of October as site preparation and pile driving begin.

Noise

  • Trucks will continue coming to and from the site throughout the month.

  • Clarke Street water main work will generate saw-cutting, excavation, and compaction noise through October 9.

  • Skatepark concrete slab placement runs through late October, concrete trucks, pumping, and finishing equipment.

  • Beginning the week of October 19, steel H-pile installation starts and continues into the winter. Pile driving is the loudest activity on the project to date and produces repetitive impact noise. All pile driving will be limited to permitted work hours.

  • Site preparation begins at the end of October, including tree removal, working pad construction, and hill cut. Expect chainsaws, chippers, excavators, and compaction equipment.

  • All work remains within permitted work hours.

Bus & Pedestrian

  • The sidewalk along Worthen Road will have temporary interruptions above the site fence.

  • Pedestrian access along Clarke Street will remain open for the duration of the water main work. Temporary walkways and marked detours will route pedestrians around the open trench, and flaggers will direct pedestrians through the active work zone.

  • Temporary walkways around the skatepark staging area remain in place.

  • Full perimeter site fencing inside the wetland buffer zones goes up in the first half of October. Expect the site perimeter to expand; walking routes across the site area will be permanently closed.

Schedule Changes

  • No changes to the project schedule this month. 

  • The Conservation Commission / DEP review period anticipates being finalized at the beginning of October, which with approval allows full site fencing and erosion controls inside the buffer zones to proceed.

  • Site enabling and foundation permitting completes mid-October, followed by the foundation/structural permit process.

Utilities & Services

  • Planned water shutdown, Tuesday September 29, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM:

    • 42 Clarke Street will be without water. A direct notice letter has been issued to the resident.

    • The DPW building, public bathrooms, and water fountains will be without water. Closure signage will be posted at the bathrooms.

  • Clarke Street water main installation continues through October 9. Any additional planned service interruption to abutting properties will be noticed in advance.

  • Sanitary utility relocation serving the existing school occurs in early October. A temporary pumped sanitary system will be installed; no service interruption to the school is anticipated.

  • Worthen Road utility relocation begins late October and runs through mid-December.
